One of my favorite songs is “The Family Is of God.” I sing it often, mostly off-key, and sometimes my husband makes rap sounds in the background. Because we’re crazy like that.

The message of the song is so inspiring. I love the lyrics:
Our Father has a family. It’s me!
It’s you, all others too: we are His children.
He sent each one of us to earth, through birth,
To live and learn here in fam’lies.
God gave us families to help us become what He wants us to be—
This is how He shares His love, for the fam’ly is of God.

October’s visiting teaching message is “The Family Is Ordained of God.” The opening statement says, “In the words of [the Primary song], ‘The Family Is of God,’ … we are reminded of pure doctrine,” said Carole M. Stephens, First Counselor in the Relief Society General Presidency. “We learn not only that the family is of God but also that we are each part of God’s family. … ” (See the rest of her awesome talk here.)

After reading this, I knew I wanted to make a printable that was pretty (of course!), and could be displayed as a constant reminder of why we need families. There is so much joy, pain, struggle, heartache, and growth that comes with being a part of a family. Knowing that the growth we experience in families is part of God’s plan has given me hope and peace while facing the difficult times. I hope this printable does the same for you. ♥

I love photoshop, naps, and chocolate. I have an etsy shop where you can see some of the things I have created when I have been eating chocolate while playing on photoshop. As for the naps, I am always hoping one is around the corner. ♥

    1. Hi Karen, I am sorry that it’s not printing right for you. The 4×6 version is printing as a 4×6 on my computer. I opened it in photoshop just to make sure and it also shows it’s 4×6. If you are still struggling, send me an email (teepeegirldesigns(at)gmail(dot)com, and I will email you the 4×6. ♥

  1. Your wisdom is always just what I need!! I played the song while I read your insights and – I cried! Thank you for loving music and always adding it to the message. Two of my friends probably have never heard this song.. so Im using this because I think it hits the SPIRITUAL SPOT!!

    1. Aw, I am so glad that you can use this printable! I hope your friends love this song like we do. 🙂 Thanks for your kind words; they mean so much to me. ♥

  2. Thank You Chrissy , for all the brilliant things you create to help us share these wonderful Gospel messages!
You are truly a Life Saver, as my VT companion and I are both busy farm/ranch wives, yet love to share such perfect handouts with our sisters.
And they enjoy them so much! We’ve given each Sister a magnetic 4X6 frame to hang the message on her refrigerator. ..and we see them there each month !
Just thought I’d take a moment and let you know how much you are appreciated ! 🙂

    1. Laura, thank you so much for your kind words! Your comment means so much to me. Now every time I start a visiting teaching printable, I will be thinking of you and the sisters you visit teach. Big HUGS! ♥

  3. Hey Chrissy! I really LOVE this handout! It is so beautiful! I was wondering if I could bother you? Do you think there is any way that you could change it so that the words are in Portuguese? If I send you the Portuguese text? Im living in Brazil and Im in charge of the visiting teaching message this month (I plan in English and then deliver in Portuguese lol) If it’s not possible that’s okay too! I just thought it couldn’t hurt to ask!! Thank you for your time and your help with my lesson!
