Once you make homemade play dough, it’s hard to go back to the manufactured kind. This play dough recipe is from my mom and I have made it more times than I can count. It is inexpensive, easy, and fast. And if you keep it wrapped up tight or in a ziplock bag, it stays soft for a long, long, long time. I have tried other recipes for homemeade play dough, but I always come back to this one. As far as play dough goes, this recipe is life changing.
Start by putting the dry ingredients in a medium sized pan. Then add the water, oil, and food coloring.
Turn the stove on to medium heat, and give it a good stir. At first the mixture will be runny.
But as the mixture heats up, the play dough will thicken. Keep stirring and don’t walk away. It will thicken really fast.
After it gets nice and thick, put it on some wax paper to cool. We love playing with warm play dough, so we usually pull out the toys and start playing right away.
Make sure you store the play dough in an air tight container or a ziplock bag. Enjoy! ♥
